Cupcakes are more and more in style these days so I told myself, Why not talk about those little cakes that just melt in your mouth....
My love for cupcakes started about a year ago, an employee where I was working at the time was such a big fan of the red velvet cupcakes from Starbucks and one day I tasted it.. ahhhh HEAVEEENNN!! It was actually a bad thing because now I am addicted to cupcakes. Those little sweet treats ahhh...
I've heard from a friend about this place called : Petits Gâteaux, on Mt-Royal street corner St-hubert. I went around town and found this place, super cute.
My personal favorite is Chocolat-chocolat... The cake is so good and the icing is like a stiff mousse, but again not to sweet, just perfect! LOVEEE ITTT !
I obviously bought cupcakes for my fiancee too. He loves the carrot one with the cream cheese icing, he says its a delight!
We also tried Coffee which was very good but not my favorite.
The other one I wanted to try was red velvet but everytime I go there I tell myself, why not try something else... And then I always end up eating the chocolat-chocolat ! ahh what can I say I love it !
They are also the only cupcake store that has mini-cupcakes all the time, usually it is by order only. I also love them, just a quick bite yummy!
Also, Not only the cupcakes are just the best sweet treats you can eat, but the box in which they put the cupcakes when you take them to go is so nice. I love the Retro-style that they created as for the logo and the box.
In the store, there is a little coffee place when you can eat your cupcake with milk or coffee, very cosy, in a trendy area.
I am telling, try it you won't regret it.
And Give me news how addicted you are now :)
Until then, Enjoy!

Cake Boss?? No Gen's tha Boss!!!
Monday, February 15, 2010

I proudly present you my first Fondant Cake! I must admit I had big hopes and hoped it would come out like this and it actually did! Yay! The reason of my cake presentation today is to show you that anything is possible, you just need a bit of patience and smile…
So here it is Cake cake cake ! Everybody loves cake Don’t we?!!!! Ahhhh I’m hearing so many things, yea i love cake but … but… no no no no no, Don’t think about calories right now, don’t think about your diet… Just let go and ddrreeaammmm!
It is called a Red Velvet Cake with Cream cheese icing covered with Fondant. I personnally call it my Valentine’s cake for my fiancé (isn’t he lucky or what?) So where to start....
First step when doing a cake like this is finding the recipe and trust me that was the rough part. I was looking for red velvet and found soo maannyy different recipes. Now how do we choose the right one ?! Well, read the reviews and follow your gut. Alright so, after you did that you got your recipe, you go to the grocery to find your things…. And you start …
1 – Fondant
Why start by the fondant ? Well It need to rest for at least 12 hours on your counter before you use it ( some says to put it in the fridge, some says don’t put it in the fridge ,some says use it right away some don’t argh…. ) I decided to go with my gut and to wrap it and leave it on the counter for 12 hours before using it. It was a good guest .
To do your fondant (professional style) you need the following :
- Icing Sugar
- Cold water
- Corn syrup (white)
- Gelatin
- Glycerin
Ok let me tell you, the Glycerin is not easy to find! I had to go in a bakery to ask where to find it cause in grocery stores nobody knew what I was talking about… You have to go where they sell stuff for professional cake makers ☺. It is a must.
Then you do it , LOT’S of fun ! messy but fun!
It’ll rest for 12 hours on your counter wrapped 2 times in saran wrap + ziploc with no air inside.
Tips : Don't put too much sugar if not it'll dry more easily and the glycerin, even if it is hard to find, it will help you ALOT.
2- Red Velvet Yummy Cake
Ok this is the most important part for me,,, make sure this cake tastes like heaven. Follow your recipe, don’t forget the red food coloring and everything will be just good!
Tips : Don’t mix it too much if not it’ll be stiff.
3- Icing
Here you can choose between buttercream, vanilla, creamchesse or whatever you like. I love cream-cheese so let’s go for it. It is the easiest icing I have evermade. So Yummy.
Here, everything is done, only the finishing touch to do …
Put your icing on your cooled cake, put it in the fridge for few hours.
During that time, prepare your fondant, roll roll roll!
Little tip here : don’t forget to add an anti-adhesive solution (icing sugar) on your counter while rolling your fondant if not : BAD surprise, it’ll stick to your counter and you will have to redo everything.
Another tip, if your fondant is too dry to work with , just add a bit of corn syrup it’ll do the job!
Then, use your imagination and Boom!
Cake’s alive…
Until next time, Bon Appetit !

SMOG = Talented Artist
Thursday, February 11, 2010

Smog?! Am I talking about this big cloud over montreal when it's really hot outside? Am I talking about this huge cloud over montreal in the morning when you can't see in front of you on the Champlain Bridge? Or is it this pollution thing that all the news keep talking about? hmm....
Actually, NONE OF THE ABOVE!
Then , What is ? Who is ? SMOG ???
I'mma tell you who this talented artist is and what he does. Trust me , keep reading, you won't regret it... There is so many things to say about him so I'll try to make it quite short.
First of all, if we think about Music. Music is his life, his passion. Main instruments?! Piano and keyboards. He also manage to use a drum at its best too. And, honestly, put any instruments in his hand He'll figure it out very quickly and will succeed.
For now let's talk about pianos. What does he play? he can play evveeerryythhinggg. Altough I find his strengths are in this blues, jazzy, hiphop tones. (Ok I'll admitt it : He honestly is very good in any style) He also says that he loves to play trip-pop. He can take something basic and make miracles with it. He can use samples or create something from scratch. Gotta admit this to; I love when he creates, what comes out of his mind is just insane. He started to play music since hmmm, since he was able to use his hands. To lead him now; Did the JazzFest in 2008 on the second biggest stage. He also did the Francofolies, Festival des mongolfieres , Soba Gala, alot of different show in different places... He says, he comes alive on stage... I believe 100% of it.
Second of all, since creating is a Strength for this man, art and drawing comes with it. He draws since he's born (ok maybe not but you get the point :) ) He can draw, create conventional things but he is amazing when it is time to create weird, unexplicable things. The way he draws, the emotions of the characters are crazy. Whether it is a simple drawing or something really spectacular you can't be careless when you are in front of one of his creations.
... I'm not done yet .. Told you there was alot to say...
Third, let's talk about laughing. Laughing, Genuine Laughs. Talk with him and this is going to happen. Amazing imitations he can do and crazy stories he can talk about. Always something to say, always something to add. Quote from one of my really good friend Kelly : He's Flying!!!
I invite you to visit his youtube videos for music... He did the music and created the videos Check it out !

In a jam session ( He's the one playing the keys :) )
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJNqnKC94ls
As for drawings, illustrations and graphic design visit his myspace ( not fully up-to-date, but still nice :) )
http://www.myspace.com/alainleg
There is so many things to say but the rest is for you to discover!
Hope you'll enjoy it as much as me :)
See you next time, until then you can listen to great music :)

Better than Sushi à la Sex in the City (the movie) !
Monday, February 8, 2010
You ladies probably remember that scene in the Movie Sex in the city where the girl tries to be 'Sensualy Sushi' ... Well here is something ever better!
Niji www.niji.ca
Meaning Rainbow, Niji is a restaurant that opened not more than 2 or 3 years ago in Quartier Dix30. You will be seated in an romantic and calm ambiance. The architecture is a great blend of japenese and modern looks. The best is to come...
FOOD! Amazingly delicious food. You have a big variety of sushis and few plates including tempura vegetables. Every single thing I tasted was melting in my mouth. Here is a quick look at what I had last time I went (at my birthday Hihih!)
- Kaki au gratin ... Delicious oysters with cheese, enoki mushrooms, onions and spinach. YUMMY!
- You can choose between a big variety of sushis . I am telling you, you HAVE TO try the "Samur-eye" and "Nippon" . The first one is for fish lovers and the second one is for chicken lovers. Specialities of the place, just amazingly delicious! The "Nippon" is chicken with peanut sauce mmmmmmmm !
The question that you probably have on mind what about Price and Service ?
Ok. First of all, price is good for what you get. It is sushi after all. High quality sushi at a good price. For service, it is the kinda place you go when you have time to spend. Don't go if you are in a rush... Also, everysingle employee is very profesionnal, the service is over expectations. Really!
It is a perfect place for a quiet romantic dinner or for a friends get2gether in a nice, classy place.
Bon Appetit!

Green Hotel? Why not!
Sunday, January 10, 2010

Since I am in the hotel topic, why not continue with a hotel I visit every here and then: ALT Hotel.
First time I went there was at my birthday 2 years ago (ouf, Time goes by fast!) My man suprised me by taking me there.. what an amazing journey of a week-end! Far from all the noise and movement of montreal, but very close of it if you need it. We liked it so much we are always going back.. Have to admit this other hotel I spoke to you about ( Auberge du vieux port) is starting to take the place of this one,,, but still love both. ! hahaha Sorry Alt!
Back to business,, Alt hotel! Very modern, still simple and comfortable hotel. We like the environmently-friendly concept and the Fix price! 129$ a night, whether you choose 1 bed or 2!! Everything was carefully put in place to make sure it is ''Green'' : electricity system, toilet, bathrooms, lighting... everything!
We miss the room service !! There are plenty of restaurant around ( walking distance) you have from sushis, to fast-food, to italian fine cuisine, to steak house. Everything is there. Also, bars, clubs and store of all kinds are around.
When we went there at first, in the morning they were putting a bag to your door including homemade muffins with juice. LOVED IT ! now, you have to get your'breakfast' downstairs. Still good but was better before.
The part I love the most!! Guessssss! THE BED!
Oh! you can't believe how comfortable this bed is... makes me wonder why I don't have one at home yet! All white sheets, so many pillows ahhhhhhhhhhhh makes you *sleep tight*
In all, nice and simple place to stay. Price and concept is great!
If you are looking for romantic, this is maybe not the place you are looking for, but for everything else! It is worth the try, Trust ME!!!
